    Position Summary

    The individual will be an experienced collection professional who will work closely with the finance and operations teams and communicate directly with the company’s customers on a regular basis.  This individual will also play a key role on several projects with the goal of improving the efficiency of the collection process and usefulness of related reporting to effectively monitor and forecast cash receipts.

    Responsibilities

    • Contact customers on a regular basis (or as required) regarding payment status of invoices on the accounts receivable aging report with a focus on past due accounts and accounts coming due. Scope of collections will be for all TV Group receivables - international sales, third party royalty/overages, production and development, intercompany, and charge-backs.
    • Play lead role in the implementation and set up of Great Plains collection module that will include all collection contacts and be used to document the status for all collection inquiries.
    • Clean up customer list across all companies, inactivate old and duplicate customers, ensure information is accurate and complete, and develop a consistent list and nomenclature.
    • Develop new and effective collection status reports that are easy to follow, concise and to the point, and can be used for cash forecasting purposes.
    • Review contracts to extract payment and invoicing terms, updating summary documents as needed.
    • Implement “best practice” credit and collection policies and procedures for optimal DSO results (i.e. evaluate customer credit history, establish credit limits, recommend payment terms for challenging accounts, standardize customer collection communications, such as through system generated notices and account statements, etc.).
    • Forecast anticipated collections by customer based on responses from collection inquiries.
    • Identify delinquent accounts that require escalated action to collect (i.e. seek involvement of the sales team, issue notice of default, legal action).
    • Research account disputes and billing discrepancies.
    • Compile and analyze days sales outstanding (DSO) by customer.
    • Track daily cash collections to ensure proper application by Billing Specialist.
    • Prepare and email daily deposit report.

    Key Competencies

    • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting/Finance or equivalent work experience in the collections field. Experience working with customers in the media, television production and distribution industries is a definite plus.
    • Excellent oral and written communication skills are a must. It is important to be forceful and authoritative but in a tone that is sensitive to the client relationship.
    • Very strong computer, quantitative and analytical skills required – ability to create schedules from scratch, manipulate large volumes of data into useful reports, pivot tables using Excel, analyze data, etc.
    • Experience with Microsoft Dynamics (a.k.a. Great Plains) and Smart List functionality is a definite plus.
    • Ability to interpret contracts and legal documents.
    • Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
    • Someone who is a fast learner and self-starter, dependable and reliable, and who takes ownership and pride in his/her work.
    • Good organizational, time management and prioritization skills.
    • Ability to juggle multiple tasks and work in a fast-paced environment.
    • Willingness to roll up ones’ sleeves to get the job done.
    • Strong attention to detail.
    • Customer service oriented.
