    Position Summary

    The Legal & Business Affairs Executive will draft and negotiate a variety of intellectual property licence agreements and will focus on UK and international brand licensing and character merchandising for some of the world’s best loved pre-school brands.



    • Drafting character merchandising licences with licensees and partners across the world
    • Drafting and negotiating agency and representation agreements with supervision
    • Business partnering our commercial teams, assisting on the negotiation of commercial deal points and leading on legal points
    • Advising our commercial teams on IP, infringement and legal risks to ensure that our licensing agreements meet our corporate objectives
    • Preparing and negotiating other licence agreements, for example publishing for our brands in the UK and internationally, either independently or with supervision
    • Working closely with the finance team to ensure a transparent flow of information to enable strong financial planning


    Default/Termination letter

    • Working with the Finance team and deal with all matters where a licensee is in default
    • Sending out default notices and termination letters and following up where required



    • Assisting the Senior Director, Business Affairs with data protection issues

    Key Competencies

    • UK (or similar, e.g. Australian or NZ) qualified lawyer with 0-2 years PQE
    • Excellent and proven drafting skills (including free drafting)
    • Experience in the field of intellectual property law
    • Experience in intellectual property licensing law as well as licensing and merchandising is an advantage
    • Ability to deal with 50-100 matters at any given time
    • Able to look after their own workload, competently track status of every matter including adopting existing system and reporting into management on a regular basis
    • Able where required to work under pressure to tight deadlines
    • Excellent communication skills (with colleagues and our agents and licensees)
    • Good negotiation techniques and an ability to handle commercial as well as legal negotiations if necessary with supervision plus the ability to close deals
