    Position Summary

    Situated within the our rapidly growing Product Development team, the successful candidate will strategically oversee eOne Family and Brands ’s Global development of Soft Line product category areas reporting to the London based SVP of Product Development.

    Responsibilities

    This role requires an assertive and creative individual, who will undertake the responsibility of managing the Soft Lines section of the Product Development team, working across our portfolios of successful brands across category areas including apparel, accessories and homeware. This role requires over 7 years of significant Product Development experience with excellent knowledge of all Soft Line product categories, Including an in depth knowledge of manufacturing techniques and limitations and be able to demonstrate the ability to creatively guide licensee range plans and creative development. A thorough knowledge of retail buying cycles and licensee critical paths is also required. Also essential is a thorough knowledge of seasonal market trends and experience at working with and developing trend led guides.

     

    This individual will be the go to person for all Soft Lines enquiries and support within the wider team. They will confidently balance the commercial and creative, demonstrating solid knowledge of the competitive landscape combined with high levels of creativity. They will take ownership and creatively drive product development in the global Soft Lines side of the business.

     

    We are seeking an experienced people manager and strong communicator, to ensure best practice within their team, promoting a creatively high standard approach to all product development. Essential is the ability to work strategically, planning resource and individual team member development. They will work closely with PD team members to ensure they work creatively, taking ownership for their responsibilities and ensure that they are working in an efficient and timely manner in line with brand and commercial strategy. They will build individual team member accountability by setting goals and objectives for the team and standards of excellence.   

     

    This individual will work collaboratively, co-ordinating with global commercial and brand teams, and external agents to understand particular territory specific challenges and product requirements and communicate this effectively with the PD team.

     

    The candidate will also work with the SVP of Product Development, the VP of Hard lines and Creative Services Manager to ensure the most effective brand assets are being developed.

     

    Essential for this role is a passion for product development and for children’s and family brands. They should be able to confidently present and share the work of the PD department both internally and externally.

     

    Main Responsibilities of Job:

    • Has key strategic responsibility for driving all Soft Line range development, working with Brand team and with commercial team input to develop range architecture, asses goals for range and creatively develop ideas in conjunction with PD Soft lines Managers working across all Soft Line product catagories.
    • Have understanding of brand DNA and be able to translate this through to product design and development with licensee across Soft Lines catagories.
    • Work collaboratively with Brand, commercial teams and Hard Line managers to successfully bring together and balance the conflicting demands of each business area with the goal of developing best possible Soft Line product ranges.
    • Be a category specialist and have extensive Product Development Experience on all Soft Line category areas, with experience of strategic input and knowledge of the development, manufacturing and planning processes. Fully understands the timelines for development and is able to balance the challenges of this category area.
    • Manage the Soft lines Manager and Soft Lines Product Development Team using substantial expertise in developing Soft Line product and management experience to provide support and guidance, driving creativity within the team, ensuring team member accountability and ownership of role resulting in best product outcome.
    • Responsibility for ensuring that the team have good commercial awareness for the product they are managing and that balance is achieved with approvals are being done in a creative and timely manner.
    • Responsibility for managing Soft Line Manager’s career progression and performance. Able to pro-actively work with PD team reports on any challenges – identify weak spots including team performance / licensee performance and resolve these issues with the support of the SVP of PD as necessary.
    • Attend with PD team reports, regular development meetings with partners to plan ranges, understand production methods/limitations and address any issues and needs in relation to creative, approvals and style guides.
    • Work with SVP of PD and VP of Hard Lines, key commercial managers /heads to effectively plan resource and ensure team is equipped for any significant surges. Works closely with SVP of Product development to flag early any issues within the department on process, personnel or communication.
    • Be the main point of contact for international agents and partners on any issues effecting product development. Work with international commercial teams and agents to ensure territory specific challenges and needs are understood and clearly communicated to PD team. Also that the balance is achieved between the needs of the brand alongside commercial requirements.
    • Work closely with licensing and brand teams to inform PD team reports on significant updates and also working territory by territory with UK and international commercial teams, international agents and where necessary licensees with regular updates and communication to quickly highlight and resolve issues.
    • Be the go to person for international and UK commercial and brand teams for any PD issues or questions in the Soft lines category areas.
    • Work with Creative assets manager, Hard Lines manager and SVP of Product Development on any creative summits or creative brand presentations as necessary. Feeding in requirements from the PD team and ensuring resources are working for the PD team, wider department and external partners.
    • Work with Creative assets manager, Hard Lines manager and SVP of Product Development on style guide assets by gathering information from licensees, looking at end use and looking at our competitors to ensure we have the best style guides possible
    • Be fully up to date on market trends, undertake regular (at least 4 times a year) competitive shops and be fully aware of competitive landscapes
    • Work with team assistant, Hard lines manager and SVP of PD to communicate to wider department on ‘best in show’ products and keep a physical updated library of these items within our stockroom area for access of the PD and wider team.       Also maintain a catalogue with up-to-date product images for sales and marketing use.
    • Ensure approvals correspondence and imagery is logically stored and accessible to the rest of the Licensing team and wider department, working with Team assistant to achieve this.
