Position Summary

eOne Family and Brands is looking to expand their product development team by recruiting a Manager, Product Development working within the softlines department of the product development team based in the HK office and reporting into the HK based Product Development Director. This role involves working across our portfolio of brands undertaking approvals and product development in softline line category. The role will report directly into the Softlines Director and it is expected that the candidate should have at least 1 years’ experience in softline product development, ideally across licensed brands.


  • Responsible for day-to-day management and products approvals for list of softline licensees across all brands and Asia territories.
  • Develop and maintain a good knowledge of eOne properties and creative assets.
  • Develop a close working relationship with PD Director, commercial team and licensee and agents to ensure that product is on brand, approved in a timely and logical manner meets the highest creative standards and is developed in line with commercial team expectations.
  • Provide creative directions/assets and feedback to licensees/agents on both 2D and 3D product submissions to ensure brand values and product quality are maintained, working closely with the PD Director as necessary if guidance is needed.
  • Develop an in-depth knowledge and work collaboratively with all licensees that fall under remit of role.  Understand development cycles and initiate where relevant to your category area key creative meetings at least once a year to work with licensee to create best product range possible. 
  • Ensure you have a full understanding of your licensees by gaining knowledge of production processes, working on range plans, gaining an understanding of their product requirements and their retail environment.  Work to address issues impacting the development process, with the help of commercial team and PD Director.  Also to ensure we are competitive and on brand.
  • Have or develop an understanding of manufacturing process of product types you are approving by working closely with Director of Product Development and the licensee.
  • Have commercial awareness with focus on your category and territory areas.  Undertaking regular research/ commercial shops and regular dialogue with commercial teams. Maintain market knowledge of products falling within assigned categories, research key product and retail trends to maximise merchandising opportunities for current and new properties.
  • Work with Director of Product Development and with international licensing and international agents on communication and any issues.
  • Feedback artwork requirements for assigned categories to Director of Product Development and Creative asset manager so they can be incorporated into style guide updates.
  • Work with relevant commercial manager and Director of Product Development to ensure that all licensed articles go into development in line with terms outlined in contracts.
  • Be aware of brand and legal issues and ensure you take responsibility for being fully informed by making use of meetings with Director of Product Development and also legal and brand updates.
  • Work with UK PD Team Assistant and Director of Product Development to regularly update Product Catalogues for sales and marketing purposes and ensure licensees are providing catalogue imagery.
  • Ensure approvals correspondence and imagery is logically stored and accessible on the server.
  • Manage storage of contractual samples and ensure process room is kept tidy and orderly with help of PD team assistant.

Key Competencies

  • Excellent communication skills (written, verbal and visual). 
  • Experience across all main softline category areas.
  • Ability to identify and solve design/concept problems.
  • Good working knowledge of Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator and Microsoft Office. 
  • Graphic design experience desirable. 
  • General knowledge of manufacturing process and how they apply to products. 
  • Ability to work as part of a team.
  • Excellent eye for detail.
