Position Summary

The Financial Planning Analyst will perform detailed and analytical accounting and financial functions within the Television division, in both the production and distribution sides of the business.  This role will be providing financial support to the following areas: Financial Planning, Budgeting & Analysis, Royalties Waterfalls, Greenlights, and Corporate Reporting & Accounting.


The following functional areas will work with the incumbent for regular responsibilities on a monthly, quarterly, annual, and ad hoc basis.  The duties include, but are not limited to, those noted below:

  • Financial Planning, Budgeting & Analysis
    • Prepare waterfalls used to calculate and report recoupment and backend to profit participants.
      • For each eOne and acquired production, compile and review all relevant executed contracts in order to develop an Excel model that accurately reflects the ultimate profit payout obligation to all participants.
      • Manage and prioritize list of waterfalls that need to be completed, working closely with legal, production financing, and royalty teams.
      • Organize regularly scheduled meetings to ensure the departments are aligned on model assumptions and contract interpretation.
      • Update greenlights for significant changes to ultimate participation estimates based on final waterfalls.
    • Assist in preparing and updating the annual financial budget and quarterly forecast model, focusing on gross margins by title.
    • Back up for updating first looks and development transactional data from multiple entities, and through excel modelling, group by project to track spending and receipts across the business.
    • Assist with the preparation of greenlights, identifying the show revenues and expenses; determining the exposure, cash flow and return on investment; and often performing scenario analyses based on changing assumptions.
  • Corporate Reporting & Accounting
  • Research and re-classify financial transactions, preparing appropriate general journal and correcting journal entries.
  • Update monthly intercompany financial reports, linking to data GP downloads.
  • Work with manager to provide clear and accurate reporting and supporting monthly financial schedules to management.
  • Prepare and complete other projects and ad hoc requests as assigned.

Key Competencies

  • University graduate with a Bachelor’s degree in business; CPA preferred
  • 3-5 years’ experience in an accounting or a financial role; in the entertainment industry an asset
  • Experienced in royalties/ back-end recoupment calculation preferred
  • Able to work with all levels in the organization, both as a team player and independently.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong work ethic; attention to detail; accurate; motivated; self-starter.
  • Takes initiative: arranges follow up meetings and is proactive.
  • Sound analytical thinking, planning, prioritization, and execution skills.
  • Strong problem identification and independent resolution skills.
  • Able to multi-task and work effectively in a fast-paced and changing environment.


Technical Competencies:


  • Expert in Excel (strong modeling skills preferred), knowledge of PowerPoint, Word, Outlook.
  • Strong understanding of technical and general accounting principles.
